Research and Interventions in Childhood Disease

Prevention and Treatment of Childhood Pneumonia, Malaria, and Diarrhea

Pneumonia, malaria, and diarrhea are three of the top causes of mortality among children under five in developing countries. In addition to treating these diseases every day at our facilities in Uganda and Ethiopia, we also carry out targeted initiatives aimed at ultimately eradicating such diseases.

  • Kissito has joined the University of Texas School of Public Health in a Pediatric Diarrhea Research Partnership. We are undertaking a comprehensive study of the pathogens in pediatric diarrhea in various areas of Uganda and Ethiopia. The results of this research will take us a step closer to the necessary interventions to reduce deaths from diarrhea.
  • In the Kamashi Zone of Ethiopia, Kissito is engaged in community-based, culturally relevant malaria prevention activities. Our "Begara" for a Malaria-Free Society program is one piece of a multi-year worldwide intervention funded by the Global Fund.
